After what has been a really glorious summer, it has turned cold here in Devon this week. So, I was thinking that some of the jobs I have lined up to do in the garden are going to have to wait for a bit. Then it reminded me of something that Stephen Covey once said.
“Proactive people carry weather within them.” – Stephen Covey
What he meant was that there are really two kinds of people in the world. The first group are those who allow the environment to dictate their actions – such people don’t decide where they are going in advance; they consequently end up in the jobs they occupy, entirely by accident.
Then there are the second group – they make their decisions and then see them through to their conclusion, regardless of what outside factors might seek to influence them. That’s what he called ‘proactive people’ and that’s what he meant by his Habit #1 (Be Proactive) in his landmark book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Hmmm, some food for thought there – perhaps gardening isn’t over for this year … yet!
Which type of person are You?
